There are many things that you can do with your children to make the Christmas holidays a lot of fun. Do you love creating things? Children definitely love the idea of creating things and are naturally more creative.

Christmas Craft Idea 1: Homemade Christmas Ornaments

Often we find boxes of old jewelry in second hand stores, garage or rummage sales and they do not cost much. If we look around our own home, we can find quite a number of old jewelry pieces that are broken and can't be used.

With some jewelry wire or thin string, thread together various beads and bobbles to make a 5 inch long loop, twist it around and knot it up. Do the same for two more such loops and leave some string to spare so that it can then be hung on the tree.

Let your creativity flow with this. Mix and match the color of the beads you are using. You can even string them up to trail around your tree. You can embellish them with larger pendants. They will really add the festive look to your tree. You can even give these ornaments to family and friends. If your niece loves purple, string her purple pendant into her Christmas decoration and I am sure she will save it for many Christmas to come.

Christmas Craft Idea 2: Make Your Own Fire Starters

This is an excellent way to reuse old potpourri and old candles. For this you will need candle wax or paraffin. You can also use those used candles that don't have wicks anymore. You can buy wicks or retrieve them from old candles. The best way to make wicks is to dip cotton twine into your melted wax and cool it. You can reuse your potpourri that has lost its scent or use clean dry pine cones. You also need muffin or cup cake tin. Simply melt wax in an old container in a saucepan filled with water. While the wax is melting, fill your cup cake tin with potpourri or set in a pine cone in each of the compartments. Pour wax over each of them ensuring that the wax settles right to the bottom. When the wax starts to cool down, add a 1.5" wick near the center. Let the candle harden.

Again creativity is the essence. You can add different colors, cinnamon sticks, dried flowers, or scented oils into the cake tin containing the wax. You can also add sea salt so that it looks frosty but you must sprinkle the glitter before the fire starter sets.

As gifts for your loved ones or friends, place your ornaments and fire starters into pretty gift baskets. They will definitely be appreciated and your Christmas crafts ideas will surely going to be a hit this season.
